Selecting A Promotional Water Bottle

In this world of, sometimes, too many choices, it can be difficult to select a water bottle that will work to meet your goals. With custom water bottles, selection factors may range from activity-specific bottles that will be easy and comfortable to use to just the basic needs of hydration.

The water in our bodies is essential for life. Without water (or other liquids), we can’t survive. Since the water in our bodies is continually being used or lost, it needs to be continually replaced, and the best fluid to replace it with is water. It is no surprise then that water bottles have changed over the years to meet the needs of different activities.

First and foremost

Whichever custom printed bottle you use, it is first and foremost important to determine how they will be used and for which market. With water bottles, if you are targeting runners and backpackers, weight may be most important. If you are targeting employees of an office who will likely use the bottle indoors or in their car, then maybe a double wall insulated bottle that can keep drinks cold and hot for extended periods may be best. And there are the trendy bottles like the camping-style bottles (also nicknamed 'Gorpcore' - NY mag article) which are making a comeback! We have them available here!Again, your target market is an important consideration when selecting a water bottle.

What material is your water bottle made of?

Water bottles come in a wide range of materials that offer various benefits uniquely suited for different activities. Many plastic water bottles, can be very durable and handle lots of abuse. The big concern about plastic bottles are toxicity from the material they are made of. You may have heard about plastic water bottles that contain a chemical called bisphenol A (BPA). This chemical can leach into water and has been associated with cancer, diabetes and other medical issues. Knowing what we know now, we would recommend that you avoid bottles that contain BPA. See example here!

Stainless steel water bottles and thermoses tend to provide better insulation than plastics, particularly double walled ones. They keep hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold longer. Some can keep your drinks cold or hot for 24 hours or more. Keep in mind that, thinner stainless steel bottles, may dent more easily than plastic bottles and are sometimes heavier. See example here!

Glass water bottles are not as popular as plastic and stainless steel bottles. Their main advantage is that they are easier to keep clean and do not tend to retain taste from previous drinks. Their biggest disadvantages are weight and breakability. They tend to be favored by people who may be concerned with chemicals used in the the construction of plastic and stainless steel bottles. If you are considering a glass water bottle, we recommend the shock resistant rubberized grip ones. See example here!

Water Bottle Sizes

Water bottles come in many sizes and liquid capacity. As with any container, there can sometimes be a trade off between capacity and weight depending on the use of the promotional bottle. Capacity can be measured in either fluid ounces or liters. , and typically ranges from 16 to 32 ounces (about half a liter to a liter) with 26-28 ounces being the most popular. The National Academies of Sciences suggests that women consume a total of approximately 2.7 liters (91 ounces) of water from all beverages and foods each day and that men get approximately 3.7 liters (125 ounces) daily. More liquids are needed during any strenuous physical activity (about 4 to 6 ounces every 20 minutes).

Water Bottle Shape

Again, depending on your target market, the shape of your water bottle may be an important factor. For runners, water bottles should be slender enough to fit comfortably in their hand or running suit pocket. For camps or hikers, the bottle may need a loop to easily hang on a belt or pack.

Water Bottle Nozzles

Water bottles can come with or without a nozzle. Water bottles with a nozzle are usually best when people need to drink on the go, such as campers, hikers or bikers. Bottles that require you to remove a cap to drink tend to be priced lower but there is always a chance that the cap will be misplaced or lost. Bottles with nozzles are easier to use particularly when you are exercising as you just have to flip it open to drink. They are also less likely to spill. A nozzle favorite is the pop up straw.
